WOOD
RIVER® TACKLE BAG
Consider
this option to wearing a fly fishing vest.
Often
times a fly vest is hot, heavy, binding on the shoulders or the lower
pockets are filling with water as you wade, unnecessarily soaking
all your flies and personal gear. They're inappropriate and unsafe
when worn in a float tube and tend to get overloaded with equipment
and gadgets you rarely need or use.
Wood river pioneered the new era of modern tackle bags back in the
1980. They're specifically designed as an alternative the the fly
vest. You may, at first, feel "out of uniform" when employing a bag
but "bags" are actually more traditional tackle carriers of fly fishing
gear, vests only being introduced in the last 30-40 years.
Extremely
versatile, the Wood River® bags are made to be worn as a chest pack,
fanny pack, stabilized shoulder bag or attached to your float tube
or boat. Designed with over 30 years of knowing the intricacies of
fly-fishing and the imput of hundreds of fellow fly fishers, they
are the most "well thought out" equipment carriers in the world. Every
bag is in fact made twice... a bag within a bag. All functional features
for the outside of the bag are then made the same for the inside.
By eliminating the problem of heat, weight and limited visible accessibility
associated with "traditional" vests, its easy to see why these tackle
bags are held in such high regard by those who use them.
The
most popular model of the many Peter Ross desisns is the SK Supreme
from The Guide Series.
This
ultra compact, organized and extremely versatile carry-all is for
the angler who is looking for a bag that's big enough to hold all
the essentials like fly boxes, tippets, a leader wallet, forceps,
a flex light, nippers and a hook file file, yet small enough to be
worn comfortably all day.
FEATURES:
- 20 compartments with drop down tray
- Space for 4 standard or 2 large fly boxes
- Removable center dividers
- 2 mesh tippet pockets
- Large front and rear accessory tool dividers
- 2 accessory D-rings
- Size: 6.5" x 9" x 2.5"
- Color: Green & Tan
- Material: 420 denier nylon pack cloth

FLOAT TUBE
If
you really want to explore new horizons as you expand your new hobby
of fly-fishing or want to maximize your fishing sucess at a lake then
you should seriosly consider a float tube.
Float-tubes
have come a long ways in the last few years from the earlier "belly-boats"
of the past. Using swim fins for propulsion, they're sleek, portable,
efficient watercraft that are perfectly suited to fishing lakes, ponds,
reservoirs or other impoundments. They allow you to fish the whole
lake (as oppossed to just the edges that you can negotiate) thereby
opening up the most productive parts! Extremely lightweight, float
tubes easily deflate and can be packed in your wader bag and taken
on a plane or packed into a remote mountain lake; places that you
couldn't take your canoe, pram or inflatable raft.
Fishing
from a float-tube is as easy as fishing from a floating arm chair,
since your center of gravity is low enough to remain well-balanced
and comfortable. The angler, wearing a pair of swim fins, sits within
the tube on a saddle of reinforced nylon cloth and webbing and has
at his or her disposal numerous zippered compartments engineered into
the packcloth shell's design. Once in the water you can silently cruise
offshore to explore productive submerged islands, areas of subaquatic
growth and rising fish. From your floating platform you can fish lakes
and ponds not fishable from shore because of limited or poor access
do to weed growth, trees or other obstacles surrounding its perimeter.
By the same token, weeds and ledges can be successfully fished
along their length as opposed to fishing them one-dimensionally, that
is, at a right angle to these prime spots. You can also troll
with a float tube, or combine a troll with a tantalizing twitch and
strip retrieve. Couple this with fishing closer to the water level
without the leverage advantage of a fixed position and you'll really
enjoy the challenge of a big fish tugging at your line!
The
best of the lot are the new generation V-boat designs from Pete Ross
of Wood River®
The
patented hydrodynamic "V" design slices through wind and waves with
greater ease than it's predecessor allowing for greater manuverability
and increased stability..
The
Special Edition Gliderider TM
from Wood River® is manufactured from a shell of tough 1000 denier
Cordura that has four times the abrasion resistance of pack cloth.
The shell comes with a High Country twin air bladder set (main chamber
and backrest.) The float tube consists of a main compartment that
holds the tube, an additional compartment in the rear that serves
as both a backrest and auxiliary flotation. There is full-length top
backrest pocket as well as a right and left side half pocket These
compartments hold everything from flies, spare reels, leaders, license,
lunch, soft drinks, or anything else you can think of to take along
on a day's float on a lake or pond. To the float tube's shell are
sewn pack straps for backpacking,Velcro¨ rod holders, three web carry
handles and 9 D-ring accessory mounts to hold optional creels, landing
net, anchor etc.
Fishing
from a float tube is about as much fun as you can get on the water
with rod & reel. Give it a try!...you'll love it!
